Spray tan tips for men: Things to know before your session.

While spray tans have grown in popularity, in the last decade, they have become even more popular among the male population versus the female population. Spray tanning for men at After Glow Tanning Salon is simple, fast, and helps achieve a healthy glow.

Here are a few spray tanning tips for men and what they should know before their tanning session.

Shower and Exfoliate before your session

Preparing your skin before you arrive at your spray tan session is a crucial step in the spray tanning process. Oily skin acts as a barrier, making it hard for the spray tan solution to penetrate your skin. Use a gentle face scrub and body scrub to help remove excess oil and dead skin cells from the skin's surface to reveal clearer and brighter-looking skin. Focus heavily on the rough areas of your body that need the most attention, like elbows, knees, ankles, and feet, and be sure to remove all sunscreen and moisturizer on your face. It is important to remember that you should not swim, shower, engage in physical activity, or sweat for a few hours after completing a tanning session.

Know what to wear during and after your session

Deciding what to wear during your spray tan appointment comes down to your comfort level. The best clothing item to wear at your spray tanning session is swimwear, like swim shorts or speedos, and avoid clothing made from wool, linen, or silk. Booking a session in an unattended spray tan booth, means you could also possibly enter the booth in the nude, but there are very few studies to support how safe the solution in the spray tan is for the nether regions. After a tanning session, you should wear something lightweight and dark, like swimwear. The spray tan should soak overnight for optimal results and being the spray tan solution may rub off on both clothing and bedding, we recommend that you sleep on a towel, or an old sheet set that you do not mind staining.

Can you spray tan with a beard or body hair?

Men with an overabundance of hair can still spray tan without shaving. While the solution may bead up around the hair, there should not be any issues associated with a spray tan. Depending on the thickness of your hair, there may be some spots of spray tan solution found on the skin, should you remove the hair at a later time. If you have plans to shave, do so before a tanning session appointment. Shaving after a tanning session will interfere with the darkening process, as spray tans get darker as the day progresses. Shaving after your spray tan removes dead skin cells, which will shorten the length your tan lasts.
